University of Saskatchewan Jazz Ensemble concert and reception
with JUNO winning First Nations artist Murray Porter.

Featuring the premiere of "The Fiddlers Where Grey Stones Stand" by Paul Suchan, a piece commissioned by the U of S Canada 150 Project.

Murray Porter is a Mohawk piano player from Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. With a mix of blues, country, and humour, his soulful voice sings of the history and contemporary stories of the Indigenous peoples and universal themes of love, lost and found. He has spent over 35 years playing his unique style of footstomping, hand clapping blues around the world.

Paul Suchan (BEd’07, BMusEd’07) is a composer, performer, music educator and co-founder of the Strata Festival of New Music. He is a 2016 U of S Alumni Achievement Award recipient.

Supported by the Nasser Family Fund to Promote Cultural Awareness and Appreciation, the Office of the Vice-Dean Research, Scholarly and Artistic Work (College of Arts and Science), the Office of the Associate Dean of Aboriginal Affairs (College of Arts and Science), the Office of Aboriginal Initiatives (U of S) and the Office of the Vice-President Research (U of S).

The former College of Home Economics will also be celebrating its centennial as part of the Alumni Weekend celebrations.
