History of Golden Grads

All USask graduates who have celebrated their golden anniversary become part of the Golden Grads family. Our Golden Grads program, created in 2017, is a chance for us to celebrate our alumni that graduated 50 years ago and recognize how they have shaped our university, our communities and beyond.

2017

USask’s inaugural Golden Grads celebration was hosted in 2017 to coincide with the 100th Anniversary of the Alumni Association at the University of Saskatchewan.

This initial event took place in person at Convocation Hall and honored 92 alumni celebrating the 50th anniversary of their graduation in 1967. The event included a pinning ceremony and afternoon tea reception.

2018—19

From 2018-19 Golden Grads continued to be hosted as an in-person reception to an audience of local alumni. Participating alumni received their Golden Grad pin after crossing the stage at Convocation Hall, the same path they would have walked to receive their certificate or diploma 50 years ago.

The pinning ceremony was followed by an afternoon tea, attended by Golden Grads, their families, and friends. Alumni shared memories from their time on campus and flipped through editions of the Greystone Yearbook and viewed other memorabilia.

2020 — today

In 2020, Golden Grads moved online, and for the first time, alumni not local to Saskatchewan were able to participate. Over nine hundred USask Alumni participated in the 2020 Golden Grads celebration.

Each year we recognize the Golden Grads class from 50 years ago through our Golden Grads celebration website, which includes interviews with members of the class, remarks from the Chancellor, “Memory Lane” submissions by that year’s participating alumni, a mailed parchment and pin package, and an honour roll noting participating alumni.
