7th annual KinSpin raises funds and spirits
The sun was shining and the Bowl was packed with over 350 students, faculty, staff, Special Olympians and 150 volunteers eager to take part in the seventh annual KinSpin Walk Run and Roll on Saturday, September 20.
By Kelsey TopolaThe event raised close to $10,000 for the College of Kinesiology’s Special Needs Trust, which provides funding for special needs programming within the college. “Last year we purchased four specialized wheelchairs at a total cost of $14, 000,” says Paul Rogal, one of the event’s coordinators, “three of these were purchased with funds from the Special Needs Trust.”
The Special Needs Trust also provides funding for programs such as the Physical activity for Active Living or PAAL program and Kids in Motion ̶ which are intended to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle for kids with economic, physical or intellectual limitations. "Not only is staying active important to stay healthy, but it's also a lot of fun," said Interim University of Saskatchewan President Gordon Barnhart, who participated in the event this year, "and every kid deserves to have plenty of fun."
