Eli Bornstein, who was recently featured in an article by the Saskatoon StarPhoenix, counts himself a lucky, lucky man.

Order of Canada recipient. Internationally acclaimed artist. Longtime educator at the University of Saskatchewan …

But, wait, here he is still playing tennis on a regular basis at 96 years young.

“I wish I could play more,” Bornstein says with a playful grin.

“But I lead a very busy life doing a number of different things. I’m grateful that I can play twice a week.”

For this dedication and durability, not previously seen in these parts, Bornstein was honoured by his senior tennis league peers this week at the Lakewood Indoor Tennis Centre.

Bornstein was presented with a special Spirit of Senior Tennis Award, and showered with praise instead of Gatorade.
