On November 15, the University of Saskatchewan (USask) will take part in celebrating National Philanthropy Day, by honouring Bev Hughes for her generosity and continued support to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). The long-time donor will be awarded with an Honoured Supporter award at the Saskatoon chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals’ annual event celebrating the day.

For more than a decade Hughes has supported the WCVM, with donations inspired by her passion for animals and her love for the WCVM and its work. She is devoted to helping future veterinarians succeed, and each year she funds one student’s tuition costs.

Hughes hopes that one day the University of Saskatchewan will be home to the most progressive vet college in North America, and on September 22, 2016 the college came one step closer to achieving that honour, as it announced the creation of the BJ Hughes Centre for Clinical Learning. The centre allows students to learn in a state-of-the-art simulation environment, advancing their educational opportunities in the college.
