USask Alumni Email
Important Update: Alumni email services will be discontinued as of Feb. 15, 2026
The University of Saskatchewan is continually working to enhance security, manage costs and ensure our digital services adapt to a changing environment. After careful review, USask has made the decision to discontinue offering alumni email accounts as of Feb. 15, 2026. Please see FAQs and instructions below for what you need to do.
What this means for you:
- You will no longer have access to your USask email account as of Feb. 15, 2026.
- You should retrieve any data or information that you want to keep before Feb. 15, 2026. After Feb. 15, you will not be able to access your account and all information will be deleted.
- You will need to update any online accounts or services to a new personal email address.
- You should update your contact information with USask to a new personal email address to avoid any disruption in communications.
Why alumni email is being discontinued
Over the past 35 years, email has changed dramatically and so have the ways people use it. USask is ending its alumni email to improve cybersecurity, protect personal data, and manage rising costs. Most alumni now prefer free email services like Gmail or Apple Mail, and usage of alumni email accounts has steadily declined.
Discontinuing alumni email accounts will help us better protect personal and institutional data as cybersecurity threats and phishing attacks are increasing. In recent years, licensing models have also changed to a fee-per-user model, which has exponentially increased costs. With more than 80,000 accounts supported annually at USask, this shift has made the alumni email program financially and operationally unsustainable. Many other universities across North America have made similar decisions to discontinue their alumni email services.
USask’s decision is in line with trends and best practices with peers, signaling a shift toward more secure, cost-effective, and modern digital engagement practices. Moving away from email accounts allows USask to dedicate resources to engaging with alumni in other ways, in line with their preferences. Additionally, decreasing email accounts reduces energy consumption globally, aligning with our sustainability priority.
What you need to do:
To avoid losing important information and to avoid disruption in communications, alumni should take the following steps:
- Save your data: Download or forward any emails, photos, contacts or files you want to keep from your USask email account before Feb. 15, 2026. Accounts will be inaccessible, and all data removed on Feb. 15, 2026.
- Update your contact info with USask: Provide a personal email address (e.g., Gmail, Apple Mail, other) to continue receiving university news and updates.
- Update online accounts and subscriptions: Update your email address on any services, subscriptions, or logins that currently use your USask email. After Feb. 15, 2026, you will not be able to access those services.
- See the FAQ for additional help.
