Bryce Boynton (BSN’17)

One to Watch Award

Bryce Boynton (BSN’17) is a registered nurse and a leader in Saskatchewan’s health-care system who is passionate about creating positive environments for patients and nurses alike. Since graduating from the College of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan (USask) in 2017, Boynton has made a difference in urban, rural, and remote communities and has worked in a variety of settings, including in public health, primary care, home care, mental health and addictions, and dental care.

In 2025, Boynton was elected as the president of the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN)—a remarkable achievement at this relatively early stage of his career. In his role with SUN, which represents more than 11,000 registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses, and nurse practitioners across the province, Boynton leads with openness, collaboration, and respect for those he represents, as well as for the patients and the clients they serve. His ability to navigate complex perspectives, foster collaboration, and ground discussions in evidence has earned him widespread credibility among SUN members, policymakers, and external partners.

Boynton is described by his colleagues as principled and deeply committed to improving patient care and the experiences of those who deliver it. While a student at USask, he took on significant leadership responsibilities through the Canadian Nursing Students’ Association (CNSA), serving first as a board member and later as president. In this national role, he represented nursing students from across the country and advanced initiatives that were focused on mental health, Indigenous health, and equitable access to nursing education. He also dedicated substantial time to mentoring peers, strengthening advocacy skills, and building collaboration across the country.

Boynton’s keen interest in improving how systems function led him to work that brings together clinical practice, policy, and advocacy. Beyond Saskatchewan’s health-care system, Boynton has contributed at the federal level as a senior policy analyst with the Public Health Agency of Canada, supporting evidence-informed decision-making on public health issues affecting Prairie communities. He has also shared his talents and expertise with the Canadian Nurses Association, where he collaborated with government to advance health policy at a national level. Boynton’s volunteer service, meanwhile, has continued alongside his growing professional responsibilities. For example, he has contributed his time and expertise to provincial and national committees and working groups focused on workforce wellness, patient safety, and equitable access to care. In these voluntary roles, he has helped shape discussions that directly affect community health outcomes.

Boynton lives in Regina, Sask., where he works daily to be a strong ambassador for the nursing profession. Throughout his nursing career, his leadership and advocacy efforts have been widely covered by journalists working in Saskatchewan’s media, underscoring Boynton’s growing profile as an emerging leader whose voice is consistently sought in public conversations about health‑care delivery, workforce sustainability, and patient safety. Boynton inspires those around him by continually translating his nursing education into meaningful, system‑level impact, demonstrating clarity of purpose, credibility, and a commitment to improving the lives of others.
