University of Saskatchewan Unveils Homecoming 2007 Plans.

The University of Saskatchewan today unveiled plans for the most extensive all-colleges, all-years reunion ever held in the institute's 100-year history. The three-day University of Saskatchewan Alumni and Friends Centennial Homecoming 2007 takes place September 14-16, with over 50 events, activities, tours, lectures and celebrations.

"With over 120,000 University of Saskatchewan alumni living around the world, and more than 27,000 in Saskatoon alone, Homecoming 2007 provides an opportunity for our alumni and friends to reconnect with one another and with their university," said Heather Magotiaux, Vice-President University Advancement in announcing the plans at a pep-rally like event.

Director of Alumni Relations Melana Soroka provided opening remarks from Nobel Plaza, directly in front of the University's historic College Building. Flanking the stage were a host of University of Saskatchewan students, Huskie Cheerleaders in uniform with pom-poms, and Huskie athletes decked out in their football jerseys.

Vera Pezer, the University's newly elected Chancellor, introduced U of S alumnus and Huskies Head Coach Brian Towriss, who did the official kick-off to Homecoming celebrations by kicking a football into the Bowl.

Major Homecoming 2007 and Pre-Homecoming events announced by Magotiaux include:

Thursday September 13:

  • A traditional Powwow will be held at the University's Physical Activity Complex.
  • Later that day, the Celebrating Our Successes Alumni Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner, hosted by the University's Alumni Association, will showcase the notable achievements of seven University of Saskatchewan alumni.
  • An evening lecture features world-renowned primatologist, environmentalist, and UN Ambassador for Peace Dr. Jane Goodall.

Friday September 14:

  • The Centennial Golf Tournament takes place at Saskatoon's Riverside Country Club. In the evening, Three Days Grace headlines the Centennial Homecoming Cabaret.
