Governor General’s Award for U of S Alumnus

Allan Casey (BA'86) is one of 14 recipients of the 2010 Governor General's Literary Awards. Casey's first book Lakeland: Journeys into the Soul of Canada earned him the award in the non-fiction category. Each winner receives $25,000.

Lakeland reflects Casey's personal passion for exploring the waterways of Canada's wilderness.

Casey is a freelance journalist currently living in Saskatoon. He studied English at the University of Saskatchewan and received his Masters Degree in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario. His articles—published in such magazines as Adbusters, Canadian Geographic, Canadian Living, Reader's Digest and Books in Canada—have been nominated for several National Magazine Awards. He won the inaugural Science Journalist Award from the University of British Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism.

His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will present the 2010 Governor General's Literary Awards on Thursday, November 25 during a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
